El Medano is a town in the municipality of Granadilla, south of Tenerife. It is located about 11 kilometers from the town of Granadilla and is one of the most attractive tourist destinations in the Canary Islands. The beach, bars, restaurants, shops and hotels make it a very entertaining area many tourists who visit annually.
The coast of Granadilla de Abona is set on the beach of Leocadio Machado, popularly known as Medano Beach, 750m and about 2 kilometers from the beach of Tejita, which is the largest natural sand beach of the whole island .
El Medano has background Red Mountain, a volcanic crater demolished by sea erosion with a half submerged. It is what divides the two beaches. It is a protected area declared a special nature reserve and area of environmental sensitivity.

The beach has spectacular views, fine white sand and clear turquoise waters. It has all kinds of services and therefore has been awarded the Blue Flag recognition. It is a familiar and young people beach.
You could say that is divided into two areas: the area of swimmers and surfers area. In the surfers area you can find as many sports as you wish and if you fancy go for a swim or have a brunch at the stunning Hotel Kn Arenas del Mar Beach and Spa, go to the area called “La Jaquita Beach”
The winds beat the beach and there is a breakwater which makes visiting many fans of water sports like windsurfing, kite and surfing. In fact, every year since 2011 celebrated the World Windsurfing Championships PWA (Professional Windsurfers Association). Also other sporting events in other disciplines that attract many athletes are held.

We emphasize the Market in El Medano, every Saturday from 9 to 14h is held in the Plaza del Principe. It is a very popular market, reminiscent of the 70 markets where hippies items, handmade jewelry, clothing, accessories, crafts and opportunities to sell low cost. He is a perfect place to find a souvenir of the island full of colors and contrasts market.
Events like the Sports Fair, in late summer, local food fairs, where you can taste the best recipes and wines and live music concerts for all tastes are held throughout the year. Go with family or friends and enjoy the best atmosphere.
If you’re in late June in the area do not miss the celebration of the Night of San Juan, where the beach is filled with bonfires, great atmosphere and magical evening baths.
